India has reiterated its plea for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and urged for the unconditional release of hostages during a session at the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) Open Debate on the Middle East. R Ravindra, India’s Deputy Representative to the UN, emphasized India’s stance on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, condemning terror attacks and civilian casualties while advocating for restraint and de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy.
Ambassador R Ravindra highlighted India’s commitment to international law and humanitarian principles, stressing the need for humanitarian assistance and unrestricted access to relief services in Gaza. He commended Qatar and Egypt for their diplomatic efforts and reaffirmed India’s consistent advocacy for peace and stability in the region.
India’s position supports a two-state solution, advocating for the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestine alongside Israel within mutually agreed borders. Ravindra underscored India’s developmental assistance to Palestine, amounting to nearly USD 120 million over the years, including significant contributions to UNRWA.
Concluding his address, Ambassador Ravindra reaffirmed India’s readiness to engage actively in promoting sustained peace and stability in West Asia, expressing optimism in realizing these goals through continued multilateral engagement and diplomatic efforts.
