Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Sunday that India should thrive in the world of sports, which he has been encouraging, but it should excel in hockey, football, kabaddi, and kho-kho because these are indigenous activities. Modi stated in his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ that sports is one area where the country’s young is always attaining new triumphs. India had its best-ever result in the World University Games in China, he added, noting that our players won 26 medals in total, 11 of which were gold medals. He stated that the total number of medals awarded since 1959 was just 18. Modi also spoke with some student athletes who won medals at the World University Games during the telecast.

He chatted with Pragati, an Uttar Pradesh resident who got a medal in Archery; Amlan, an Assam resident who won a medal in Athletics; Priyanka, an Uttar Pradesh resident who won a medal in Race Walk; and Abhidanya, a Maharashtra resident who earned a medal in Shooting.

Modi enquired about their challenges to victory and complimented them on bringing honor to the country. When asked which sport he prefers, Modi stated that India should flourish in the world of sports, which is why he is pushing activity in this sector. However, hockey, football, kabaddi, and kho-kho are indigenous games in which we should never fall behind. And I’m noticing that our people are doing well in archery and shooting, he continued.

I see that our youth, and even our families, do not have the same feelings about sports that they did previously. Previously, when children went to play, they were stopped. And today, times have changed, and the success that you have achieved inspires all families, he told the athletes.

Modi added that wherever our children are going, they return after accomplishing something or other for country in every game.

Such news is widely broadcast in the country today, and it is also imparted and debated in schools and universities, according to him. Modi stated that the country witnessed the force of ‘Sabka Prayas’ on August 15. The combined efforts of the entire country transformed the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’ into the ‘Har Man Tiranga Abhiyan’.
