Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has raised significant concerns about Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health, particularly focusing on his dietary habits and insulin management while he is lodged in Tihar Jail. In a letter to Delhi’s chief secretary, Saxena has urged for immediate implementation of strict health monitoring protocols for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, citing his existing medical condition of Type-II Diabetes Mellitus.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently incarcerated after being arrested by the CBI in connection with the alleged excise policy scam, has been granted interim bail in the Enforcement Directorate case. The Lt Governor’s letter highlights a series of health issues related to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s diet and insulin regimen. Reports from the prison superintendent noted that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had been consuming fewer calories than medically recommended, resulting in noticeable weight loss and raising health alarms.
The letter detailed discrepancies in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s insulin administration and blood sugar monitoring. It specifically mentioned an incident on July 7, when Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reportedly declined his insulin dose before dinner, which could potentially lead to severe health complications.
In response to these concerns, Saxena has mandated that prison authorities ensure Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal strictly follows his prescribed medical diet and insulin regimen. The directive also includes a requirement for rigorous blood sugar monitoring to prevent any potential health crises or legal issues.
The letter has been communicated to the Delhi government’s home department as well.
AAP has responded to the Lt Governor’s letter with criticism. Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj questioned Saxena’s authority on health matters, remarking, “As far as I know, LG sahab used to work in a cement factory. Didn’t know he was a doctor, an expert on health issues.” Bhardwaj also noted that Saxena has never contested an election, implying a lack of political insight.
On July 13, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh raised additional concerns about Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health, claiming he had lost 8.5 kg while in jail. Singh accused the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of conspiring to harm Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health and keep him incarcerated. Singh stated that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s weight had dropped from 70 kg to 61.5 kg since his arrest, suggesting the possibility of serious health issues.
The situation underscores the heightened political and health concerns surrounding Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s imprisonment and the ongoing scrutiny of his well-being.
