Following a significant gathering by the NDA to elect its Parliamentary Party leader, several parties within the INDIA bloc, including the Congress, DMK, and Trinamool Congress, are set to hold individual meeting today. The discussions will revolve around analyzing their performance in the Lok Sabha polls and charting out future strategies.
The Congress will convene meetings of its Working Committee, the party’s apex decision-making body, to name its Parliamentary Party leader. Currently, Sonia Gandhi holds the position, with indications suggesting her renomination. There’s strong advocacy among newly-elected Congress MPs for Rahul Gandhi to lead the party in the Lok Sabha.
An extended Congress Working Committee meeting is scheduled at Hotel Ashok at 11 am, where leaders will scrutinize the party’s performance and propose measures for organizational enhancement. Key figures including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will partake in the discussions. Additionally, a Congress Parliamentary Party meeting will occur at 5:30 pm in the Central Hall of Parliament, as announced by party leader Jairam Ramesh.
Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress chief, will host a dinner for extended CWC members and party MPs at Hotel Ashok.
In the wake of the INDIA bloc’s surprising victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief MK Stalin will convene a meeting with newly-elected party MPs in Chennai. Similarly, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will gather with newly-elected party MPs at her Kolkata residence at 4 pm today.
The Congress’s improved performance in the 2024 elections, winning 99 seats, positions it as the second-largest party after the BJP, which secured 240 seats, 32 short of a majority. The INDIA bloc clinched 234 seats, defying predictions, while the NDA emerged victorious with 293 seats.
