Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan currently imprisoned, has publicly accused Army Chief General Asim Munir of orchestrating a personal vendetta against his wife, Bushra Bibi. Imran Khan claims that Asim Munir, after being removed from his position as ISI chief during Imran Khan’s government, tried to indirectly approach Bushra Bibi to discuss matters related to his removal. Imran Khan further alleged that this vindictiveness has led to his wife’s prolonged incarceration without any proof, highlighting a deep political and personal conflict within Pakistan’s military and political spheres.
Targeting of Bushra Bibi and Personal Vendetta
Imran Khan revealed that after removing General Asim Munir from the top intelligence post, Asim Munir attempted to contact Bushra Bibi through intermediaries. According to Imran Khan, his wife firmly refused any communication, emphasizing her non-involvement in political or military affairs. Despite this, Bushra Bibi has faced harsh imprisonment for over 14 months, which Imran Khan describes as unjust and inhumane treatment driven by Asim Munir’s personal grudges. Imran Khan stressed that even during Pakistan’s past dictatorships, such targeting of a political leader’s family member had not occurred. He strongly denied allegations against his wife, stating that no evidence has been presented, and criticized the repeated false cases filed against her. Additionally, Khan lamented the denial of his legal right to meet his wife, with prison authorities refusing visitation despite court orders.
Events of May 9 and Political Suppression
Imran Khan also addressed the political unrest witnessed on May 9, which involved attacks on military installations. He called these events part of a “London Plan” designed to eliminate the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the largest political force in the country. Labeling it a premeditated conspiracy, Imran Khan said many PTI leaders and workers were unlawfully jailed during this crackdown. He accused the judiciary and anti-terrorism courts of complicity in this campaign, alleging they have deliberately ignored key evidence such as CCTV footage. Imran Khan demanded the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the incidents of May 9 and November 26, 2024, while criticizing the judiciary as self-serving and reluctant to uphold justice.
