Reports suggest that his death resulted from a heart attack. Illia Yefimchyk was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition and fell into a coma, with his wife, Anna, performing chest compressions while awaiting an ambulance.
Illia Yefimchyk, hailing from Belarus, was known for his extraordinary physical attributes, including a towering 6-foot frame and a weight of 340 pounds. His muscular build and strength earned him a notable reputation within the bodybuilding community. Despite never competing in professional events, Illia Yefimchyk was celebrated for his impressive lifting statistics, claiming personal bests of a 600-pound bench press, a 700-pound deadlift, and 700-pound squats. He maintained a rigorous fitness regimen and diet, consuming up to 16,500 calories daily, including more than five pounds of steak and over 100 pieces of sushi spread across seven meals.
Illia Yefimchyk had gained a significant following on social media, where he shared his training routines and showcased his formidable strength. His untimely death adds to a troubling pattern in the bodybuilding world, following the recent deaths of other prominent figures. British bodybuilder Neil Currey, 34, was found dead in September 2023, with his parents attributing his death to prolonged steroid use. Additionally, Brazilian competitor Antonio Souza, 26, died of cardiac arrest on August 3, shortly after placing in the top three at a competition.
Illia Yefimchyk’s wife, Anna, shared her grief, stating that despite their efforts, Illia Yefimchyk’s heart only resumed beating for a short period before doctors confirmed that his brain had ceased functioning. His passing has been met with widespread condolences from the bodybuilding community and beyond, highlighting the intense physical demands and potential risks associated with the sport.
