Tragedy struck in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh as two jawans lost their lives and four others sustained injuries in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast orchestrated by Naxalites on Thursday. The incident occurred during a return from an anti-Naxal operation in the forests of Mandimarka, under Tarrem police station jurisdiction.
Chief Constable Bharat Lal Sahu and Constable Sater Singh bravely laid down their lives while on duty. The injured personnel—Purushottam Nag, Komal Yadav, Siyaram Sori, and Sanjay Kumar—are currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital. Plans are underway to airlift them to Raipur for further medical attention.
The blast took place following intelligence reports indicating the presence of Maoists from various divisions in the border area between Bijapur, Dantewada, and Sukma districts. Joint operations involving State Task Force (STF), District Reserve Group (DRG), Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were initiated based on this intelligence.
Security measures have been heightened in the region, with additional forces deployed to ensure safety and conduct operations effectively. The injured STF soldiers are receiving necessary medical care, underscoring efforts to provide them with the best possible treatment.
This incident echoes a similar tragedy from last month when two CRPF personnel were killed in an IED blast in Sukma district. The attack targeted a routine patrol convoy, highlighting the ongoing security challenges faced by forces combating Naxal insurgency in the region.
The recent casualties underscore the persistent threat posed by Naxalites and the continued efforts of security forces to maintain stability in affected areas. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by personnel serving on the front lines against insurgency, emphasizing the need for vigilance and strategic responses in the ongoing conflict.
