A health worker from Gujarat has been arrested for allegedly leaking sensitive information about Indian security forces to a Pakistani operative, highlighting ongoing concerns about espionage networks operating within the country. The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) apprehended Sahdev Singh Gohil from Kachchh district, accusing him of sharing photos and videos related to sensitive Border Security Force (BSF) and Indian Air Force (IAF) infrastructure with a woman identified as a Pakistani agent.
How the Espionage Link Was Uncovered
According to Gujarat ATS Superintendent of Police K Siddharth, Gohil came under scrutiny after authorities received intelligence that he was communicating with a suspected Pakistani agent. During a preliminary inquiry held on May 1, officials learned that Gohil had developed contact with a woman named Aditi Bharadwaj via WhatsApp around June-July 2023. As conversations progressed, it became apparent that Bharadwaj was working for Pakistani intelligence and had solicited visuals of under-construction or newly constructed BSF and IAF facilities.
Responding to these requests, Gohil allegedly shared classified photographs and videos through WhatsApp. Investigators revealed that at the start of 2025, he even went as far as buying a SIM card using his Aadhaar credentials to activate WhatsApp on behalf of Bharadwaj, providing her with the one-time password (OTP) for registration. This enabled the Pakistani agent to use the Indian number for further communication and data transfer.
Financial Transactions and Legal Action
Further investigation showed that Gohil was paid ₹40,000 in cash by an unidentified individual, who is suspected to be part of a larger espionage ring. Forensic analysis of Gohil’s phone is currently underway, and early findings confirm that the WhatsApp account used by “Aditi Bharadwaj” was operated from Pakistan. This strengthens suspicions that Gohil knowingly aided an enemy agent in acquiring sensitive national security information.
Gujarat ATS has registered a case under Sections 61 and 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against both Gohil and the Pakistani handler. The arrest is part of a broader effort by national security agencies to crack down on individuals collaborating with hostile entities and leaking defense-related information. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the full scope of the network and identify additional suspects.
