Harbhajan Singh, the former India cricketer, has confirmed the long-standing rumors about his fractured relationship with MS Dhoni, admitting that he hasn’t spoken to the former India captain in over a decade. In a recent interview, Harbhajan Singh, fondly known as ‘The Turbanator,’ opened up about the strained bond between the two cricketers, revealing that their communication had ceased for the past ten years.
Despite having been teammates at Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons from 2018 to 2020, Harbhajan Singh admitted that even during that time, their interactions were limited to professional conversations related to the game, with little to no personal engagement. The two legends of Indian cricket, who had shared the dressing room during numerous international matches and IPL seasons, seem to have grown apart over time.
Harbhajan Singh shared that although he tried to reach out to Dhoni a few times, his attempts were met with silence. He confessed that he never received any response from Dhoni, which led him to refrain from further attempts to initiate a conversation. “I don’t have anything against him. If he has something to say, he can tell me. But if he did, he would have told me by now,” Harbhajan Singh said during the interview with CricketNext. He emphasized that relationships are built on mutual respect and communication, which seemed to be lacking in his relationship with Dhoni.
The 43-year-old also acknowledged that Dhoni may have reasons for not speaking to him, but he could not fathom what those reasons might be. However, Harbhajan Singh made it clear that he harbors no ill feelings towards Dhoni, and his decision to stop trying to contact the former captain was purely a matter of respect. “A relationship is always about give and take. If I respect you, I hope you will respect me back. Or you respond to me. But if I call you once or twice but don’t get a response, I will probably only meet you as much as I am needed to,” Harbhajan Singh explained.
Harbhajan Singh’s revelations shed light on the complex dynamics that sometimes exist within the world of professional sports, where even close teammates can drift apart over time due to various reasons, both personal and professional. Despite this, Harbhajan Singh has consistently expressed his admiration for Dhoni’s cricketing legacy, making it clear that his lack of communication is not rooted in animosity but in the absence of a response.
