Tesla has notified the state government of California about its intention to lay off an additional 601 employees in the region. This move comes as part of the electric carmaker’s ongoing series of job cuts globally, which commenced about a month ago.
According to a notice sent to the state government, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on April 15 that the company would reduce its global workforce by over 10%, aiming to slash around 20% of its headcount. The latest round of layoffs will impact workers at Tesla’s facilities in Palo Alto and Fremont, California.
The layoffs are scheduled to commence within a 14-day period starting from June 20, 2024, as stated in Tesla’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN).
Last month, Tesla revealed plans to lay off 6,020 employees in California and Texas, marking a significant part of its overall headcount reduction strategy. Additionally, global job reductions included 285 employees at the company’s Buffalo, New York facilities, which are involved in the production of labeling for Autopilot software and fast-charging equipment.
Furthermore, Elon Musk disbanded Tesla’s Supercharger team on April 30, adding to the company’s restructuring efforts.
