Highlights
  • Gujarat government mandates strict enforcement of gaming zone regulations.
  • Proactive measures aim to prevent future tragedies, ensure citizen safety.

Following the tragic incident of a massive fire at a gaming zone in Rajkot, claiming the lives of at least 28 individuals, the Gujarat government has taken decisive action to address safety concerns in similar establishments across the state.

In response to the incident, the government has issued a directive mandating the registration of cases against owners of gaming zones found to be operating in violation of established norms. The directive stipulates that stringent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) will be invoked, with non-bailable clauses imposed against offenders lacking necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

This directive has been disseminated to all collectors and municipal commissioners throughout the state, with instructions for immediate enforcement. District police chiefs have been duly notified and instructed to register cases and undertake rigorous actions against violators.

The mandate entails comprehensive inspections of locations conducive to large gatherings, encompassing places of worship, educational institutions, commercial establishments such as malls and theaters, food markets, densely populated areas, and gaming zones.

Collaborative efforts between police and revenue officials will facilitate joint verifications at each designated location to ascertain compliance with fire safety regulations, particularly concerning the acquisition of fire NOCs.

This proactive approach underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens and underscores the importance of strict adherence to regulatory protocols to prevent future tragedies.
