Greater Noida, January 19, 2026
In the wake of a recent fatal incident in Noida in which an engineer lost his life after a car fell into a water-filled basement along the roadside, the Greater Noida Authority has launched an intensive safety अभियान aimed at preventing road accidents and eliminating potential hazards on and around city roads. Acting on the directions of Chief Executive Officer N.G. Ravi Kumar, the authority has ordered immediate identification and rectification of all accident-prone locations across its jurisdiction.
The CEO has instructed officials to identify and promptly fill any pits, depressions, or hazardous gaps on roads or along their edges, and to ensure that all necessary safety arrangements, including proper direction indicators and warning signage, are put in place. The move is intended to ensure that no similar tragedy occurs due to infrastructural lapses or lack of safety measures.

In compliance with these directions, Additional Chief Executive Officer Lakshmi V.S. convened an online review meeting on Sunday evening with General Manager A.K. Singh and all work circle in-charges. During the meeting, assistant managers, managers, and senior managers were instructed to conduct detailed field inspections in their respective areas. Officials have been directed to identify road pits, sharp U-turns, black spots, and other locations vulnerable to accidents, and to implement all required safety measures. A deadline of three days has been set for completing this exercise.
The authority formally launched the safety drive from Monday itself. Under the supervision of Additional CEOs Lakshmi V.S. and Sumit Yadav, teams from the Project Department have begun extensive fieldwork to identify and secure accident-prone areas. All work circle teams, led by senior managers, are actively surveying roads and adjoining zones to mark vulnerable locations and take corrective action without delay.

As part of the drive, a wide range of safety measures are being implemented. These include installation of road markers and cat’s eyes, painting and placement of reflectors on central verge walls, barricading open drains where boundary walls are missing, and installing speed breakers on approach and connecting roads leading to main arterial routes. The focus is on improving visibility, guiding drivers effectively, and preventing vehicles from veering into unsafe zones.
Additional CEO Sumit Yadav personally inspected the 130-metre-wide road and areas in Sectors 2 and 3 to assess ground conditions and direct officials to strengthen safety arrangements. He instructed teams to immediately identify and rectify black spots and warned that strict action would be taken against any work circle found negligent in implementing safety measures.

The Electrical Engineering Department has also been directed to ensure that no road or stretch remains poorly lit. Officials have been instructed to inspect all streetlights across the authority area and ensure they are fully functional, especially in accident-prone and high-traffic zones. Adequate lighting is being treated as a critical component of road safety under the ongoing campaign.
In addition to internal measures, the Greater Noida Authority has issued clear instructions to builders and developers to strictly adhere to safety norms at all construction sites. Developers have been told to ensure proper barricading, warning signs, and protective measures at construction zones so that unfinished basements, open excavations, or construction-related hazards do not pose risks to motorists or pedestrians.

Additional CEO Lakshmi V.S. stated that all identified locations must be secured with appropriate safety arrangements without exception. She added that every work circle will be required to submit a sworn affidavit certifying that all accident-prone locations in their respective areas have been addressed and secured as per prescribed safety standards. This measure is aimed at fixing accountability and ensuring that safety directives are not treated casually.
She further said that, in line with the CEO’s directions, the Project Department is taking all necessary steps to prevent road accidents and eliminate infrastructural risks. The authority has made it clear that safety is a non-negotiable priority and that any lapse could invite disciplinary action.

The Additional CEO also appealed to vehicle drivers to strictly follow traffic rules and drive cautiously, particularly in areas where safety works are underway. She emphasized that while the authority is strengthening infrastructure and safety mechanisms, public cooperation is equally essential to prevent accidents.
The safety drive reflects the Greater Noida Authority’s proactive response to recent events and its resolve to ensure safer roads through systematic inspections, swift corrective action, and strict accountability. The campaign is expected to significantly reduce accident risks and reinforce public confidence in urban safety management across Greater Noida.
