New Delhi, 31 August : India has relaxed a ban on the export of non-basmati white rice. The central government has allowed the export of 1.43 lakh metric tones of non-basmati white rice at the request of Bhutan, Mauritius, and Singapore.
In a late-night notification, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said the government has permitted the export of 1.43 lakh metric tones of non-basmati white rice to Bhutan, Mauritius, and Singapore. This export has been permitted through the National Cooperative Export Limited (NCEL) as per the notification from DGFT.
Bhutan, Mauritius, and Singapore have been notified for the export of non-basmati white rice. DGFT has notified exports of 79 thousand metric tones to Bhutan, 14 thousand metric tones to Mauritius, and 50 thousand metric tones to Singapore of non-basmati white rice. However, the ban on export of non-basmati white rice remains in force with effect from July 20, 2023, to boost domestic supplies.
