Google has officially inaugurated Ananta, its largest office in India, located in Mahadevapura, Bengaluru. The sprawling 1.6 million square foot facility was developed by Bagmane Tech Park over six years and customized for Google’s operations in just 11 months. With a capacity to accommodate over 5,000 employees, the new campus marks a major expansion of Google’s presence in India, where it currently has approximately 10,000 employees.
The name Ananta, which means “infinite” or “limitless” in Sanskrit, symbolizes Google’s vision for innovation and growth in the country. Designed with a modern city-grid layout, the office features team-based neighborhoods and a central amphitheater-style space known as Sabha, intended for collaborative gatherings. Sustainability is at the core of the campus’s design, incorporating one of India’s largest smart glass installations to optimize energy efficiency. The facility also recycles 100 percent of its wastewater and integrates advanced rainwater harvesting systems.
Drawing inspiration from Bengaluru’s lush greenery, the campus includes landscaped areas, jogging and walking paths, and a dedicated Aranya forest, which serves as a natural noise barrier. Locally sourced materials have been used throughout the construction to promote environmental sustainability. The new workspace is also designed with inclusivity in mind, incorporating tactile flooring for visually impaired individuals, accessible amenities, and braille details for ease of navigation.
As Google celebrates two decades of operations in India, the launch of Ananta underscores the company’s commitment to fostering technological advancements and digital inclusion in the country. Over the years, Google has played a crucial role in India’s digital transformation, leveraging artificial intelligence for initiatives such as flood forecasting, early detection of tuberculosis, and financial inclusion through Google Pay. The new campus is expected to further Google’s efforts in strengthening AI-driven innovations and expanding its reach across key sectors.
Preeti Lobana, vice president and country manager of Google India, highlighted the significance of this milestone, stating that Google has been a proud partner in India’s technological evolution over the past 20 years. She emphasized that the launch of Ananta marks an important step in adapting to the ongoing paradigm shift in artificial intelligence and its applications.
Google aims to expand artificial intelligence accessibility to businesses and individuals, ensuring its impact in critical domains such as agriculture, healthcare, and financial services. Preeti Lobana stressed the importance of collaboration with Indian researchers and startups to drive innovation, as well as Google’s commitment to making its products more useful and equipping individuals with the necessary skills to thrive in an artificial intelligence-driven world.
With Ananta now operational, Google is poised to play an even greater role in India’s digital and technological transformation, reinforcing its long-term commitment to innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
