Four police officers have been suspended following allegations that they planted a pistol in the car of a young man to falsely implicate him in a criminal case, officials reported on Monday.
According to Dinesh Kumar, the father of the youth Amit Kumar, the incident occurred on July 21 while Amit was returning from an event. Kumar alleged that police officers stopped Amit’s car in a market and forcibly placed a pistol in the vehicle. Subsequently, a case was filed against Amit, and he was sent to jail.
The incident took place in the Shikarpur police station area. A video reportedly showing the officers removing a weapon from a motorcycle and placing it in the car has surfaced online.
The Senior Superintendent of Police has suspended all officers visible in the video. Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rakesh Kumar Mishra confirmed that the police station in-charge of Shikarpur, the town outpost in-charge, and two constables have been suspended.
An additional report is being prepared concerning two home guards seen in the video. The inquiry report will be submitted to the Senior Superintendent of Police for further action.
