Four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, sacrificed their lives during a counter-terrorist operation in Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir. Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay were honored for their bravery as they engaged in heavy firefight with terrorists in the Desa area.
The Army’s Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, expressed deepest condolences and solidarity with the bereaved families. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence about terrorist presence, leading to a fierce encounter starting at 9 pm. Several soldiers were critically injured in the exchange of fire, highlighting the intensity of the operation.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, briefed by General Dwivedi, expressed profound sadness over the loss and assured full support to the affected families. He emphasized the nation’s unwavering commitment to eradicate terrorism from the region and restore peace.
This incident marks the second major attack in Jammu within a week, following a coordinated assault in Kathua where five soldiers were killed and several injured in an ambush on military trucks. The use of advanced weaponry like armor-piercing bullets and grenades underscores the escalating threat from terrorism in the region, once relatively peaceful.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent directive to intensify anti-terror operations in Jammu reflects growing concerns over the resurgence of terrorist activities, with reports indicating a significant presence of foreign-trained militants. The ongoing operations aim to neutralize these threats and secure the region, which has witnessed an increase in terrorist incidents over the past few years.
The sacrifice of these soldiers underscores the challenges faced by security forces in combating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, reaffirming India’s resolve to maintain peace and stability in the region.
