She is accompanied by her sister, Rehana Siddiq, a UK citizen. Rehana Siddiq is the younger daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the “Father of Bangladesh,” and Sheikh Fazilatun Necha Mujib, and the younger sister of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Her daughter, Tulip Siddiq, serves as a Member of Parliament in the UK, representing the Labour Party.
Indian government sources have stated that New Delhi is closely monitoring the fast-evolving situation in Dhaka. In a televised address, Bangladesh Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman confirmed former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and announced that an interim government is assuming control.
General Waqar-uz-Zaman said, “I am taking all responsibility for the country. Please cooperate.” He added that the Army would manage law and order and had met with political leaders to inform them of the situation.
The recent protests against former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government have resulted in over 100 fatalities in the past two days.
