The meeting holds particular significance given Madhur Bhandarkar’s recent comments about the financial aspects of working with top actresses. In a recent interview, he revealed that Priyanka Chopra, along with other prominent actresses like Kareena Kapoor, had reduced their fees for their roles in his films “Fashion” and “Heroine.” Bhandarkar noted the sacrifices made by these stars, who agreed to lower their fees to support his projects, despite the market rate.
Reflecting on the budget constraints of his earlier projects, Madhur Bhandarkar shared, “Every female actor slashed her price when they were working with me. Since I only had a budget of Rs 1.5 crore for Chandni Bar, Tabu didn’t charge any fee for the film. She took money against Bombay or Delhi territory, and nothing else apart from that. She worked with such conviction. Raveena Tandon (Satta) and Bipasha Basu (Corporate) reduced their prices. Even Priyanka Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor slashed their fees. They didn’t charge the market price from me because they were keen on making these movies. The entire film was resting on their shoulders so everybody slashed their prices,” he told Bollywood Hungama.
“Fashion,” released in 2008, featured Priyanka Chopra in a leading role, portraying a model whose rise and fall in the fashion industry was central to the film’s narrative. The film, which also starred Arbaaz Khan, Kangana Ranaut, Mugdha Godse, and others, was acclaimed for its portrayal of the fashion world. Priyanka Chopra’s performance earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress, while Kangana Ranaut was honored with the Best Supporting Actress award.
