A major fire broke out in a four-storey building in Jiyaguda, Telangana, on Wednesday, resulting in injuries to fifteen people, including four members of a single family. The incident, which occurred in the afternoon, has left two children among the injured, with one reported to be in critical condition.
The fire reportedly began in a sofa manufacturing warehouse located on the ground floor of the building and rapidly spread upwards. The blaze was exacerbated by the presence of flammable materials used in sofa production, which contributed to the fire’s intensity and made the situation more dangerous for those trapped inside.
Approximately twenty individuals were trapped within the building, including a family of four who resided in a room on the ground floor. Among the injured are Srinivas, a 40-year-old worker at the sofa warehouse, his 35-year-old wife Nagarani, and their two children, Shivapriya, aged 10, and Harini, aged 6.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical malfunction. The presence of combustible furniture materials in the warehouse hindered the family’s escape and caused severe injuries during their rescue efforts by local residents. The rapid spread of the fire and the lack of immediate escape routes significantly worsened the situation for those trapped inside.
