Nagpur, 08 Sept (HS): Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has been acquitted of the charges of concealing information about two offenses registered against him in the affidavit filed during the 2014 Assembly elections. The Judicial Magistrate, Class-I acquitted Fadnavis of the charges.

The court said that the charges were not affecting the elections. The hearing on the petition filed by Adv Satish Uke was completed earlier, and the verdict by the court was delivered on Friday.

Devendra Fadnavis, as corporator of Nagpur Municipal Corporation had lodged a complaint against a government pleader. The government pleader filed a defamation case against Fadnavis, which he withdrew later. The case was not recorded in the nomination form during the Assembly elections of 2014. Another case against him was also not mentioned. Adv Uke moved the court against Fadnavis for not revealing information about the cases. The other case was related to imposing a tax on slum dwellers. This petition was also rejected by the High Court.

Fadnavis claimed that the cases were not mentioned inadvertently and were not connected to his Assembly elections.

The court acquitted Fadnavis of the charges as the cases were not likely to affect his election as BJP candidate from Nagpur West constituency.
