External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is scheduled to visit Japan from March 6th to 8th, 2024, for the 16th India-Japan Foreign Ministers Strategic Dialogue. During this significant engagement, Dr. Jaishankar will meet with his counterpart, Foreign Minister of Japan Yoko Kamikawa, to discuss a wide range of issues spanning bilateral, regional, and global importance.
Significantly, the Strategic Dialogue between Dr. Jaishankar and Ms. Kamikawa is expected to delve into key areas of cooperation aimed at promoting a free, open, inclusive, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Over the past decade, the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership has witnessed remarkable deepening, particularly in areas such as defense, digital technologies, semiconductor supply chains, clean energy, high-speed rail, industrial competitiveness, and connectivity.
In a statement released, the Ministry of External Affairs said, ” EAM’s visit and meetings in Tokyo will provide strategic guidance to our functional cooperation in these areas.”
Further, in addition to the Strategic Dialogue, Dr. Jaishankar will also participate in the inaugural Raisina Roundtable@Tokyo. This roundtable serves as a significant step towards bolstering track 2 exchanges between India and Japan, fostering dialogue among business leaders, think tanks, and academia.
It is pertinent to note that, during the Raisina Roundtable@Tokyo, Dr. Jaishankar is expected to interact with various stakeholders, including business leaders, think tanks, and academia, leveraging the platform to strengthen cultural and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
