In a significant diplomatic development, the 28th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) took place on November 30, 2023. The meeting brought together high-level officials from both nations to deliberate on the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Western Sector of the India-China border.

Leading the Indian delegation was the Joint Secretary (East Asia) from the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Director-General of Boundary & Oceanic Affairs represented the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Elaborating on the details of the meet, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “The 28th Meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC) was held on 30 November 2023. Joint Secretary (East Asia) from Ministry of External Affairs led the Indian delegation and Director-General, Boundary & Oceanic Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the Chinese delegation.”

During the meeting, the two sides conducted a comprehensive review of the situation in Eastern Ladakh, emphasizing the importance of open, constructive, and in-depth discussions. Their primary objective was to explore proposals that could lead to the resolution of outstanding matters and facilitate complete disengagement in the region.

Crucially, both India and China underscored the necessity of preserving peace and tranquility along the border areas, ensuring stability on the ground, and preventing any untoward incidents that could disrupt the status quo.

In line with their commitment to resolving issues through dialogue, both nations agreed to continue discussions through both military and diplomatic channels. Additionally, they expressed their intent to convene the next round of the Senior Commanders’ Meeting at the earliest opportunity. The goal of these discussions is to work towards achieving the objectives outlined during the WMCC meeting, fostering a peaceful and stable environment along the India-China border.
