Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of the Sanjeevani Yojana, a healthcare initiative aimed at providing free medical treatment to senior citizens aged 60 and above in Delhi. Under this scheme, all medical expenses for eligible individuals will be borne entirely by the Delhi government, ensuring accessible healthcare for the elderly.
Speaking at the launch, Kejriwal emphasized the importance of this scheme, stating, “As people age, health issues become a major concern. Many families, even affluent ones, fail to provide adequate care for their elderly members. With Sanjeevani Yojana, senior citizens need not worry anymore because their son, Arvind Kejriwal, is here to take care of them.”
Kejriwal compared the initiative to the act of Lord Hanuman bringing Sanjeevani to revive Lakshman in the Ramayana, symbolizing a lifeline for the elderly population.
Key Features of Sanjeevani Yojana:
Eligibility: All Delhi residents aged 60 years and above, irrespective of income or background, will qualify for the scheme.
Coverage: No financial cap on treatment expenses; medical care in both government and private hospitals will be fully covered by the government.
Registration Process: AAP workers will visit homes to register elderly citizens and issue cards, eliminating the need for individuals to travel for registration.
Implementation Timeline: Registration will begin before elections, and the scheme will be implemented once the new government is formed.
Kejriwal also highlighted the success of the Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana, under which nearly one lakh senior citizens have undertaken free pilgrimages to prominent religious sites across India. “This initiative has brought blessings to us, which are priceless,” he added.
AAP’s Vision for Women’s Welfare
In addition to addressing elderly healthcare, Kejriwal reiterated his commitment to empowering women through the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana. Under this program, every woman in Delhi will receive ₹2,100 directly in their bank accounts post-elections, promoting financial independence.
This announcement comes as part of AAP’s broader agenda to ensure equitable access to healthcare and welfare for all residents of Delhi. With Sanjeevani Yojana, the party aims to secure its place as a champion of social welfare ahead of the upcoming elections.
