Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Thursday accused the BJP of pushing the national capital into a power crisis, alleging that various areas had been facing prolonged electricity cuts over the past few days. She claimed that the situation in Delhi was deteriorating and likened it to power shortages seen in BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh.
Atishi highlighted specific instances of power cuts across the city. She said that on February 10, Radheypuri faced a two-hour outage, Vikaspuri KG-2 experienced a four-hour power cut, and Anand Parbat on Rohtak Road suffered extended outages of more than two hours on February 11. Similarly, on February 9, Sainik Enclave in Mohan Garden witnessed a four-hour-long power cut, while on February 8, Sunlight Colony 2 and Ashram endured a complete blackout from midnight until morning.
She pointed out that complaints about power outages had flooded social media and that citizens were struggling with disrupted electricity supply across multiple areas. “For the past three days, different parts of Delhi have been experiencing prolonged power cuts. This is not limited to just one area. If one checks social media, one will see numerous complaints,” she stated.
Atishi went on to compare the governance of Delhi under the AAP-led government to that under the BJP, emphasizing that Delhi had enjoyed stable electricity under Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership. “Arvind Kejriwal is an engineer who understands the power sector. Now, BJP is trying to turn Delhi into Uttar Pradesh, where two to four-hour power cuts were the norm. The difference is clear — educated leadership versus an unqualified leadership known for fake degrees and abusive politics,” she added.
In response, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva dismissed Atishi’s claims, accusing her of conspiring and using fear tactics to pressure power distribution companies (discoms) into cooperating with her. He alleged that the crisis was being manufactured for political gains and suggested a collusion between the outgoing AAP government and discoms to create unrest among citizens.
As power outages continue to affect several parts of Delhi, the blame game between AAP and BJP intensifies, leaving residents grappling with uncertainty over their electricity supply.
