Marking 100 days in office, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led the BJP government in celebrating the occasion by distributing scholarships worth Rs 19 crore to over 1,300 students across Delhi’s state universities. The initiative, under the Delhi Higher and Technical Education Support Scheme, reflects the government’s emphasis on educational access and financial inclusion for economically meritorious students.
The disbursement ceremony was held at the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW), where CM Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood personally felicitated the scholarship recipients. The Directorate of Higher Education organised the event, which highlighted the state’s commitment to uplift deserving students.
A major financial commitment to education
In her address, Gupta noted that the government has allocated a historic Rs 20,000 crore budget for education, spanning infrastructure, digital tools, teacher development, and student assistance. She emphasized that this 100-day record is not a “report card” but a “workbook” reflecting ongoing efforts.
Highlighting a key reform, the chief minister announced that for the first time, students preparing for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and CUET will receive free coaching at Delhi government schools, breaking financial barriers and supporting students’ aspirations.
Scholarships as a signal of priorities
Education Minister Ashish Sood called the scholarships a bold expression of the government’s priorities. He said that these 1,305 scholarships aren’t symbolic but are part of a systemic overhaul aimed at rewarding merit and providing support where it’s needed most.
Top officials including Chief Secretary Dharmendra, Secretary of Training and Technical Education Nandini Paliwal, and Director Kumar Abhishek also attended the event.
CM Gupta added that a public briefing on the government’s 100-day performance will be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, while Union ministers, councillors, and MLAs will take the message to all 70 assembly constituencies to raise awareness of the new initiatives.
The BJP’s return to power in Delhi after 26 years with 48 seats in the Assembly has ushered in a strong push for reform, especially in the education sector, aiming to make Delhi a model for inclusive, quality-driven governance.
