Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], June 10 (ANI): After the Congress made significant gains in Haryana, wresting five Lok Sabha seats and giving a setback to the ruling BJP, Congress MP Deepender Hooda expressed heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the people of the state and said that the grand old party received the highest percentage of votes in Haryana.

Speaking to ANI here on Monday, Deepender Hooda said, “In the Congress meeting held today, we have expressed our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the people of the state. Today in this election, the Congress party has not only won 5 Lok Sabha seats, but if the Congress party has received the highest percentage of votes anywhere in the whole of India, it is in Haryana.”

Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda also spoke after the meeting and said, “The legislative party has passed the resolution, and thanked the people of Haryana & the senior leadership.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha tally in Haryana dropped from a perfect 10 to just five.

In the 2019 elections, the BJP won all 10 seats in the state. Candidates of the JJP, which contested all 10 seats and the INLD and BSP, which fought for seven and nine seats, respectively, received a severe drubbing in this election.

The key battle was between the BJP and the Congress, which has tied up with the AAP in the state (as part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).

The Haryana Congress is holding a meeting presided over by Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Haryana Congress chief Uday Bhan on Monday.

Congress party MLAs and newly elected party MPs from Haryana are present at the meeting. In the meeting, the results of the Lok Sabha elections and the upcoming Haryana assembly elections are expected to be discussed.

The MLAs and MPs from Haryana are expected to strategize on the upcoming assembly election in the meeting.

Having wrested five seats from the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls in the state, the Congress has started gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections.

The party leaders have started assessing the strong and weak booths to strengthen their base for the Assembly polls, besides holding meetings to express their gratitude.

Haryana is expected to hit the polls in the later part of the year.

The BJP turned in a subpar performance in the Lok Sabha Polls in Haryana. The party won 5 seats, with the Congress also winning 5 seats. The BJP registered a vote share of 46.11 per cent while the Congress registered a vote share of 43.67 per cent and its alliance partner, the Aam Admi Party, registered a vote share of 3.94 per cent.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won all 10 seats from the state.

Earlier, amid the elections in May, in a setback to the ruling government of the BJP in Haryana, three Independent MLAs announced that they had withdrawn their support for the Nayab Singh Saini-led government in the state.

The three independent MLAs that withdrew their support from the BJP-led government include Dharam Pal Gondher, Randhir Golan and Sombir Sangwan.

The BJP government has a strength of 40 MLAs. It also had the support of six out of the seven Independents, however, of the six independent MLAs, three withdrew their support. (ANI)
