The health department in Jaipur reported on Tuesday that 3 individuals succumbed to heatstroke, bringing the total number of heat-related fatalities to 3,965 as of Monday. According to health officials, the deceased individuals hailed from Agra and Delhi.
In a distressing development, two newborn infants admitted to the Government Community Health Centre in Jhalawar district also passed away on Tuesday. The bereaved parents attributed the tragic deaths to alleged negligence on the part of the hospital management, citing the absence of cooling facilities and attending physicians in the ward.
Responding to the situation, Block Medical Officer Raees Khan promptly intervened by visiting the hospital premises and issuing directives to address the shortcomings. Raees Khan mandated the installation of four coolers in the ward and the appointment of doctors for round-the-clock duty to ensure comprehensive healthcare services.
Furthermore, Mr. Raees Khan assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ascertain whether the unfortunate demise of the newborns was indeed attributed to the extreme heat conditions. The incident underscores the critical need for proactive measures to mitigate the adverse effects of rising temperatures and ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations.
