In a developing case in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, two individuals, including a Congress councillor, were arrested for allegedly raising pro-Pakistan slogans during a protest against the Pahalgam terror attack. The incident took place on April 25, and a video surfaced on April 30 showing some protesters chanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans. The police registered an FIR based on the video, leading to the arrests of Congress councillor Anwar Qadri and Razik Baba, the head of a local traders association, who were leading the protest.
The controversy began when the video was shared on social media, prompting local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Golu Shukla to call for strict police action. According to Sadar Bazar police station in-charge Yashwant Barole, the protest had no permission, and the video featured individuals chanting slogans that could harm community harmony. The FIR includes multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including section 196, which addresses actions potentially disrupting public peace.
Despite the accusations, Anwar Qadri denied any involvement in the pro-Pakistan slogans. He called the video fake and claimed that some BJP leaders had also attended the protest. The police have launched an investigation, with technical experts examining the video’s authenticity. Authorities are also looking to identify other individuals involved in the protest.
Both Anwar Qadri and Baba were taken into judicial custody after their arrest, with additional charges for disobeying lawful orders added to the FIR. As the investigation progresses, further action is anticipated, with the police vowing to take legal steps against others implicated in the case.
This arrest highlights the tense atmosphere in Indore, where protests have taken a controversial turn following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam. Authorities are working to ensure the investigation is thorough, as political and social tensions continue to simmer in the region.
