Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu’s scheduled oath-taking ceremony as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has been rescheduled to June 12, according to sources.
Initially planned for June 9, the change in date is attributed to Narendra Modi’s upcoming inauguration for a third term as Prime Minister of India, set for Saturday, June 8. Modi tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu earlier on Wednesday, with the ceremony expected in the evening. President Murmu accepted his resignation and requested him to continue in his role until the new government assumes office.
Chandrababu Naidu, a key figure in the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) recent electoral success, played a pivotal role alongside Janata Dal (United) President and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in ensuring the alliance’s victory. Despite the BJP falling short of a majority, Naidu reaffirmed his commitment to remain with the NDA following attempts by the Opposition-led INDIA bloc to court him.
In Andhra Pradesh, Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party secured a significant victory, defeating Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP, which saw its representation in the Assembly shrink to just 11 seats.
Meanwhile, Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Union Cabinet to review the Lok Sabha election results and discuss the formation of the new government. This marked the final gathering of the Modi 2.0 Cabinet and Council of Ministers.
Later, Modi convened an NDA meeting to discuss the intricacies of government formation. Sources suggest that Naidu may be eyeing the Lok Sabha Speaker’s position in the new government, along with several Cabinet and Minister of State (MoS) berths, including portfolios such as Road Transport, Rural Development, Health, Housing & Urban Affairs, Agriculture, Jal Shakti, IT & Communications, Education, and Finance (MoS).
