The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a directive to all affiliated schools regarding the adoption of new syllabi and textbooks for classes 3 and 6, which are set to be released by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). In a recent circular, the board instructed schools to implement the new textbooks published by NCERT for these classes until the year 2023.
The official circular from CBSE stated, “The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has informed CBSE through a letter dated 18.03.2024 that new syllabi and textbooks for Grades 3 and 6 are currently under development and will soon be released. Consequently, schools are advised to follow these new syllabi and textbooks for classes 3 and 6 in place of textbooks published by NCERT till the year 2023.”
Furthermore, CBSE emphasized that NCERT is in the process of developing a bridge course for class 6 and concise guidelines for class 3. These resources aim to facilitate a smooth transition for students, aligning with new pedagogical practices and areas of study outlined in the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023. Once finalized, NCERT will provide these guidelines to all affiliated schools.
To ensure effective implementation, the Board announced its plans to conduct capacity building programs for school heads and teachers. These programs will orient educators with the new teaching-learning perspectives envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
However, CBSE clarified that there will be no alterations in the curriculum and textbooks for other classes during the academic year 2024-25, commencing from April 1, 2024.
