A significant security incident unfolded at Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram airport on Thursday morning, as a bomb threat triggered a full emergency response involving an Air India flight arriving from Mumbai. The situation developed when Air India flight 657, carrying 135 passengers and crew members, received a bomb threat while en route to Thiruvananthapuram. The threat, which was communicated by the pilot, led to immediate and decisive action by airport authorities.

The flight, which had taken off from Mumbai, was approaching Thiruvananthapuram airport when the pilot received the bomb threat and promptly informed air traffic control. The threat was treated with utmost seriousness, and a full emergency was declared at the airport. As the aircraft landed at approximately 8 am, it was swiftly directed to the isolation bay, a designated area for handling such emergencies. This measure was taken to minimize any potential risk to other passengers, aircraft, and airport facilities.

Once the aircraft was secured in the isolation bay, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated. The evacuation process was conducted with speed and efficiency, ensuring that everyone on board was removed from the aircraft without incident. The passengers were then transported to a safe area within the airport, where they were provided with necessary assistance and reassured by airport officials.

Following the evacuation, a thorough inspection of the aircraft was initiated by a specialized bomb squad and airport security personnel. The inspection aimed to determine whether there was any explosive device on board or if the threat was a hoax. Simultaneously, an investigation was launched to trace the origin of the bomb threat and identify the individuals or group responsible for causing the alarm.

The authorities have not yet disclosed any further details regarding the investigation, but sources indicate that multiple agencies are involved in the probe. The priority remains ensuring the safety of passengers and maintaining security at the airport. The incident also prompted a temporary suspension of other flights at Thiruvananthapuram airport, leading to delays and some disruptions in the airport’s operations. However, normal flight operations were gradually restored once the immediate threat was contained and the airport was deemed secure.

Passengers aboard the affected Air India flight expressed their relief at being safely evacuated but also shared their anxiety over the situation. Many passengers praised the swift response of the flight crew and airport authorities, noting that they were kept informed and felt safe throughout the ordeal. Air India, in a statement, confirmed the bomb threat and assured that they are fully cooperating with the investigation. The airline also provided alternative travel arrangements for the affected passengers, ensuring minimal disruption to their travel plans.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges and threats faced by the aviation industry, underscoring the importance of stringent security measures. While the situation at Thiruvananthapuram airport has been resolved without harm, the investigation into the bomb threat continues, with authorities working to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The incident serves as a reminder of the critical role played by airport security and emergency response teams in safeguarding public safety and maintaining confidence in air travel.
