In an unexpected blend of technology and tradition, an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) tool has been created to evaluate the roundness of chapatis, sparking widespread attention and curiosity across social media. The tool, named rotichecker.ai, was developed by Animesh Chouhan, an IIT Kharagpur graduate who is currently based in Bengaluru. It gained immense traction after a user posted a nearly perfectly round roti on social media, captioning it with the phrase, “Gol roti banana bhi ek art hai” (Making a round roti is also an art). In response to this, Chouhan introduced his AI tool, which scored the roti an impressive 91 out of 100.

The tweet quickly went viral, with people reacting to the novelty of the AI-driven tool that could assess something as everyday as a chapati. Encouraged by the attention, Chouhan challenged the public, stating that if his post received 420 likes, he would make the link to the tool publicly available. The challenge sparked a wave of engagement, and the post garnered the necessary likes in no time. This led to a notable increase in searches for “Roti Maker” on Google, signaling widespread curiosity about the tool’s functionality.

According to Chouhan, the AI model was created as a fun, lighthearted project in his spare time. He even joked about seeking an investor to help procure the domain name, offering 10% equity in return. “Let’s make it happen!” he shared, along with the link to the AI checker. The tool’s website, which reads “RotiChecker.ai. Dough or Die: The Great Gol Roti Challenge. Coming soon,” offers a playful spin on the classic cooking challenge, promising to revolutionize how home cooks and perfectionists alike approach roti-making.

The tool has captivated many users, with the idea sparking humor and intrigue. Some social media users even suggested the creation of similar AI-powered tools that could assess the color of chai or other aspects of traditional cooking. However, the AI-powered roti evaluator has not been without its critics. Some pointed out that while the tool could evaluate the shape of the roti, it didn’t account for other factors like thickness, which plays a more significant role in determining the taste of the chapati.

The response to the tool has also highlighted some controversial conversations. A few users accused the AI evaluator of being misogynistic, suggesting that the platform was more geared toward women. Chouhan quickly addressed these claims, sharing posts from men who had also used the tool to evaluate their rotis. He dismissed the accusations, saying, “Who said this platform is only for women? If you assumed that, then that’s your own misogyny showing, not mine. We have men posting here too. Cheers!”

While the AI-powered roti checker is being hailed for its playful approach to traditional cooking, it has also sparked debates about the practicality of such tools. While some see it as a fun way to measure one’s cooking skills, others question whether it truly adds value to the culinary experience. Despite the mixed responses, the creation of rotichecker.ai has undeniably captivated online users, bringing attention to how artificial intelligence can intersect with everyday life in unexpected ways. Whether it leads to more AI-driven culinary tools or remains a quirky novelty, it has certainly captured the imagination of the public, proving that even something as simple as making a round roti can be a source of fascination in the digital age.
