The father of a 17-year-old boy, whose speeding Porsche caused a fatal accident killing two people in Pune, has been arrested by the Pune Police. Vishal Agrawal, a real estate developer, was apprehended from Aurangabad, Maharashtra, following a case filed against him.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday when the teenager, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, crashed his Porsche into a couple riding a two-wheeler. The victims, identified as Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both aged 24 and employed in the IT sector, tragically lost their lives in the collision.
While the minor driver was initially granted bail by a district court, the decision sparked public outrage, prompting authorities to seek permission to try him as an adult. Meanwhile, the father of the accused and the bar which served liquor to the minor are facing legal proceedings under the Juvenile Justice Act.
The bail granted to the teenager was accompanied by conditions including undergoing psychiatric evaluation, working with traffic police, and writing an essay on road accidents and their solutions.
The Pune Police are leaving no stone unturned in their investigation, with Commissioner Amitesh Kumar affirming their determination to prove the severity of the crime. Questions have been raised regarding the absence of a number plate on the Porsche, prompting further scrutiny into the circumstances surrounding the vehicle.
Family members of the victims have criticized the bail conditions imposed on the accused, denouncing them as inadequate given the gravity of the situation. They have also expressed frustration over what they perceive as the influence of wealth and status in the legal proceedings.
The tragic incident has reignited debates on road safety and the accountability of individuals involved in such accidents, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of laws and regulations.
