AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has firmly responded to criticism regarding his participation in the government’s multi-party delegation to Pahalgam following Operation Sindoor. Speaking to CNN-News18, Asaduddin Owaisi emphasized that his involvement was driven by genuine conviction and national interest rather than political appeasement or seeking approval. He also called for an end to communal stereotyping and stressed the need for a transparent discussion on security failures related to the Pahalgam terror attack.
Standing By His Convictions and Rejecting Stereotypes
Asaduddin Owaisi made it clear that his statements as part of the delegation reflected his true beliefs. “I don’t speak to earn certificates of patriotism,” he said, pushing back against those who questioned his loyalty. He highlighted the importance of ending toxic stereotyping against Muslims, stating that the community, like all Indians, desires peace and prosperity. Addressing Rahul Gandhi’s controversial comments, Asaduddin Owaisi distanced himself from political controversies and suggested that Gandhi’s party should clarify its own stance, underscoring the democratic right to free expression.
Demand for Parliamentary Accountability and Transparent Debate
When asked about whether a special parliamentary session should have been convened in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, Asaduddin Owaisi acknowledged that the government had the option to call one but noted that the monsoon session has now been scheduled, hoping the attack will be discussed then. He emphasized the government’s responsibility to explain the security lapse, ensure accountability, and develop a clear deterrence policy. Reacting to recent remarks by the Chief of Defence Staff, Asaduddin Owaisi pointed out that such statements are politically sanctioned and cannot be viewed in isolation from the political leadership. He stressed the right of Parliament to question the government and hold a structured debate on matters of national security. Lastly, he reaffirmed his respect for India’s armed forces, emphasizing his party’s pride in the defense personnel.
Asaduddin Owaisi’s comments underline a call for unity beyond politics and highlight the importance of transparency and accountability in safeguarding national security, while rejecting divisive narratives.
