Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM), has pledged to keep protesting the Waqf (Amendment) Act until it is completely withdrawn. Speaking at a public gathering organized by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) in Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the Centre’s actions, accusing it of attempting to undermine Muslim rights and identity.
Asaduddin Owaisi likened the ongoing protests against the Waqf Act to the widespread agitation against the now-repealed farm laws. He declared that the protest movement would continue peacefully across India until the law is reversed. Addressing a crowd of supporters, Asaduddin Owaisi said, “You (Prime Minister Narendra Modi) will have to take back this law. The way our farmer brothers showed the way, we will continue our fight in the same manner.”
The AIMIM leader then called for a sustained, democratic struggle, asking the gathered crowd to commit to continuing the protests until the law is repealed. “Are you ready for a long-drawn democratic battle?” Asaduddin Owaisi asked, urging his supporters to remain steadfast. He emphasized that the fight was not just about the Waqf Act but part of a larger struggle to protect the Muslim community’s rights.
Asaduddin Owaisi further criticized the government for its policies regarding the Muslim community, referencing laws like the triple talaq bill, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and various religious conversion legislations in BJP-ruled states. He accused PM Narendra Modi of launching systematic attacks on Muslim identity over the past decade, underlining that the Waqf Act was yet another move to erode Muslim rights. Asaduddin Owaisi also expressed concern over the exclusion of the Dawoodi Bohras from the Waqf bill, suggesting it was a deliberate attempt to divide the community.
Referring to remarks made by BJP leaders, Asaduddin Owaisi stressed the importance of constitutional morality. “We believe in the Constitution. But these people are undermining it,” he said. He condemned the growing radicalization and threats against the judiciary, accusing Modi’s supporters of fomenting unrest and undermining democratic principles.
In support of the ongoing protests, AIMPLB announced the launch of a new campaign titled ‘Save Waqf, Save Constitution,’ which will include a series of protests and public gatherings in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The campaign is set to include activities such as blackout protests, round-table discussions, and a central sit-in protest scheduled for June 1 in Hyderabad.
