Apple is gearing up for a major event on September 9, where the spotlight will likely be on the new iPhone 16 series. However, the tech giant is also set to introduce updates to its iPad lineup. The forthcoming launch is anticipated to include the iPad 11th generation and the iPad Mini (7th generation). Both devices have been overdue for an upgrade, with their predecessors last refreshed two years ago. Here’s a detailed look at what to expect from these new models.
The iPad 11th generation is expected to retain much of the design and technology of its predecessor, which debuted in October 2022. This previous model introduced a sleek, flat-sided design and a landscape-oriented selfie camera, features that set it apart at the time. Although significant design changes are not anticipated for the upcoming version, it is expected to come with enhanced specifications. Rumors suggest that the iPad 11th generation might feature the same A18 chipset as the new iPhone 16 series, though an A16 chip, also used in the iPhone 15 range, remains a possibility. Additionally, an increase in base storage to 128GB is likely, addressing the growing need for more storage in entry-level tablets.
The iPad Mini (7th generation) is poised to follow up on the significant overhaul seen with the 6th generation model, which debuted in September 2021. The previous update brought major design changes including a flat-edged profile, USB-C connectivity, and support for the Apple Pencil 2. The 7th generation iPad Mini is expected to incorporate some of the features missing in its predecessor, such as a landscape-oriented front camera and compatibility with the Apple Pencil Pro. It is rumored to include the A18 chipset, which would enable advanced features like the new Siri, Genmoji, and Image Playground, although these functionalities might not be available immediately upon launch. The new iPad Mini is also anticipated to double its base storage to 128GB, matching the iPad Air, while retaining its starting price of $499. In India, the price is expected to be around Rs 45,900, similar to its predecessor.
In addition to the iPads, Apple is reportedly working on a new, more affordable Magic Keyboard designed specifically for the upcoming iPad models. Unlike the premium Magic Keyboard introduced for the iPad Pro, this new keyboard is expected to feature a budget-friendly silicone top case, with a release anticipated around mid-2025 if all goes as planned.
