In a significant development for Uttar Pradesh’s political landscape, the state government has announced the appointment of new office-bearers for the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission. Among the key appointments is Aparna Yadav, who has been named vice chairperson of the commission. This move marks a notable moment for Aparna Yadav, who has had a dynamic political career and comes from a prominent political family.
The announcement, made on Tuesday, was formalized through an official notification issued by Principal Secretary Leena Johri. The notification confirmed that Governor Anandiben Patel has used her authority to appoint Babita Chauhan as the chairperson of the UP Rajya Mahila Aayog. Alongside Chauhan, Aparna Yadav and Charu Chaudhary have been appointed as vice-chairpersons of the commission. Their terms will last for one year or until a new decision is made by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Aparna Yadav, who is well-known in political circles, is the younger daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party (SP) founder and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav. She is married to Prateek Yadav, the step-brother of Akhilesh Yadav, the current SP chief. This connection places Aparna Yadav in a significant position within the state’s political framework, reflecting her family’s deep involvement in Uttar Pradesh politics.
Aparna Yadav’s political journey has been quite eventful. She contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from the Lucknow Cantt constituency on an SP ticket but was not successful. Despite this setback, she has continued to be an influential figure in state politics. In January 2022, she made headlines by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), signaling a shift in her political affiliations. Her appointment to the UP Women’s Commission represents a new chapter in her public service career, allowing her to contribute to women’s issues and policies in Uttar Pradesh from a position of influence.
The appointment of Aparna Yadav and Charu Chaudhary as vice-chairpersons alongside Babita Chauhan’s leadership as chairperson underscores the Uttar Pradesh government’s commitment to addressing women’s issues through dedicated and experienced personnel. This new leadership team is expected to play a crucial role in advancing the objectives of the Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission and implementing policies aimed at improving the status and well-being of women in the state.
