In a shocking incident in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, a man has been arrested for the brutal murders of a school teacher, his wife, and their two minor daughters. Police have revealed that the prime accused, Chandan Verma, was allegedly involved in an extramarital affair with the victim’s wife, Poonam.
Amethi Superintendent of Police Anoop Singh stated that during police interrogation, Verma confessed to the killings, attributing his actions to a recent fallout with Poonam. Singh explained, “The accused said he had been having an illicit relationship with Poonam for the last 1.5 years. However, the relationship had soured recently, which caused him stress. It appears that due to this, he shot and killed the family of four.”
On Thursday, Verma allegedly entered the family’s home with several armed assailants and fired approximately 10 rounds from a single pistol, resulting in the tragic deaths of 35-year-old teacher Sunil, his wife Poonam, and their daughters, 6-year-old Drishti and 1-year-old Aditi. Following the attack, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving the family critically injured.
The police reported that all four victims were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. In a failed suicide attempt, Verma shot himself after the incident.
Verma was apprehended a day later at a toll plaza in Noida while trying to escape towards Delhi. He sustained injuries during a shootout when he attempted to seize an officer’s firearm. Police were able to track him down based on a threatening WhatsApp message he had posted prior to the murders, stating, “Five people will die; I will show you soon.”
Sources reveal that Poonam had previously filed a complaint against Verma under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, which had made him a key suspect in the case. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to recover the pistol and the bullet motorcycle believed to have been used in the crime.
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the growing incidence of domestic violence and the safety of women in soc
