In the country’s biggest sex scandal case that happened 32 years ago in Ajmer, Rajasthan, the POCSO court has sentenced 6 convicts to life imprisonment. The convicts involved in this case had raped more than 200 girls.
The case is of the year 1992, when more than 200 college girls were blackmailed and raped. The case begins with Farooq Chisti and a girl from Sophia Girls College, who is Farooq’s friend. Farooq calls this girl to the farm house one day and convinces her to have physical relations with him and also takes some pictures of her during this time. Then he blaikmails her friend and asks her to bring her other friends from the college to the farmhouse or else he will circulate all these pictures. This was the beginning of India’s biggest Sex scandal.

Farooq belonged to a powerful family of Ajmer and was also the President of Youth Congress. His family was very famous in Ajmer, mostly for the wrong reasons. A total of 18 people were involved in this case, out of which 4 people have been sentenced. First these four were sentenced to life imprisonment, then the Supreme Court reduced the sentence to 10 years. 4 were acquitted by the High Court and one committed suicide 30 years ago. Apart from this, the ninth accused, with whom it all started, Farooq Chishti, was sentenced to life imprisonment by the lower court in the year 2007 and was released by the High Court in the year 2013 after serving the sentence. The court has now sentenced 6 more convicts to life imprisonment.

In this case, girls were blackmailed in a systematic manner by taking so many pictures and college girls were raped one after the other. When the accused gave the reel of these pictures to the lab for development, the lab owners also started blackmailing the girls. Slowly, the Xerox copy of these pictures started circulating. Whoever got these pictures, started blackmailing the girls. As the accused were caught in this case, new trials were being started and the old trials kept getting put on hold. In this way, this case kept dragging on for a long time. The police first presented a charge sheet for 8 accused. After this, 4 separate charge sheets were presented against 4 accused and then four more charge sheets were presented against 6 more arrested accused. Experts say that this was the biggest mistake of the police and justice could not be done in the case for 32 years. The police had to prepare a new charge sheet every time and the victims had to come for testimony every time a new trial started. Due to this, 104 people testified in this case and in the end only three victims stood firm on their statements till the end. Now the court has given a 208 page judgment on this.
