A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey’s northwestern province of Canakkale on Monday, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). The quake occurred at 5:39 p.m. local time, with the epicenter located in the Ezine district.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported on social media platform X that there were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries. The Ministry is actively assessing the situation and monitoring reports through the Emergency Call Centre. Field survey operations are underway to evaluate the impact of the earthquake.
The tremor was also felt in Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city, raising concerns among residents. Despite the shaking, initial reports suggest that there have been no adverse conditions reported thus far.
