YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has intensified his criticism of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, asserting that massive crowds at his recent public tours reflect growing disillusionment among people with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s administration. Citing his outreach visits and interactions across the state, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the mood on the ground shows strong anti-incumbency building within just a year of N Chandrababu Naidu returning to power.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Claims Betrayal Day Success Shows People’s Anger
Speaking at a press conference from his Tadepalli residence, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy highlighted the state-wide success of “Betrayal Day” observed on June 4, claiming it received a tremendous response. According to him, this illustrated public frustration with the TDP government’s inability to fulfil key electoral promises—specifically the much-publicised “Super Six” guarantees. He also accused the government of failing to uphold law and order.
YS Jagan Mohan Reddy recounted how during his recent visit to Sattenapalli, he faced a “curfew-like” situation imposed by the authorities, which he viewed as repression of the opposition’s democratic rights. “What is wrong if an opposition leader visits a grieving family?” he questioned, while pointing to the large turnout that welcomed him despite the restrictions. He further alleged that the public is increasingly disappointed with the ruling dispensation and is now looking to the YSR Congress for alternative leadership.
TDP Government Accused of Targeting Farmers and Using Repression
The YSRCP leader also referred to his visit to Podili last week, where he met with tobacco farmers under distress. He alleged that the TDP-led administration imposed severe restrictions to suppress the event. According to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy , a few TDP workers attempted to disrupt the gathering, yet the farmers who came in support of YSRCP remained calm. Despite this, he claimed, cases were filed against farmers rather than those creating disturbances.
He accused the government of misusing law enforcement to repress dissent and opposition voices. “People are venting their frustration by showing overwhelming support to our programmes,” he asserted.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu pushed back against the accusations, claiming that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s condolence visits were politically motivated and aimed at inciting unrest. He alleged that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy violated police permissions and deliberately held public gatherings in narrow spaces, risking public safety.
N Chandrababu Naidu warned that such crowd mobilisations, if left unchecked, could result in dangerous consequences and urged the public to remain vigilant. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order in the state and urged citizens to carefully consider what kind of leadership they want for Andhra Pradesh’s future.
The escalating exchange between YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and N Chandrababu Naidu reflects the deepening political divide in the state, with both sides accusing each other of failing the people. As both leaders continue their political outreach, the state remains closely divided ahead of future electoral battles.
