Heavy rainfall swept through Delhi-NCR on Wednesday morning, offering a welcome respite from the sweltering humidity. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow alert’ for the national capital and surrounding regions, signaling the potential for continued heavy showers throughout the day. This alert suggests rainfall amounts could range between 6 cm and 11 cm.
The IMD’s forecast indicates that temperatures will likely range from a high of 36 degrees Celsius to a low of 27 degrees Celsius. The areas affected include Delhi University, Civil Lines, Kashmiri Gate, Seelampur, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Patel Nagar, Red Fort, Preet Vihar, Budha Jayanti Park, and President House.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded in the “good” category with a reading of 40, as per the Central Pollution Control Board.
The IMD also predicts significant rainfall across other regions. Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra are expected to experience heavy rainfall on July 24. In contrast, Rajasthan is anticipated to continue facing hot and humid weather until at least tomorrow.
For northeastern India, the IMD forecasts “fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall” over the next five days. Himachal Pradesh has been issued a ‘yellow’ warning for heavy rains at isolated locations until July 27.
In Chandigarh and Punjab, temperatures are predicted to be “above normal” with high humidity over the next two days. Similarly, light to moderate rainfall is expected in other parts of north and south Odisha on July 25 and 26.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in North Goa and South Goa districts from July 24 to 25.
