Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, is set to hold a town hall with former US President Donald Trump ahead of the November 5 presidential elections. This announcement comes three years after Donald Trump’s suspension from the platform following the January 6 Capitol riots.
In addition to Donald Trump, X plans a similar town hall with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., an independent presidential candidate. Donald Trump, recently convicted in connection with a hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels, will answer submitted questions during the livestream event, which will also be broadcast in partnership with cable channel NewsNation.
Elon Musk confirmed the events in a tweet on Friday, stating that they “will be interesting,” corroborating a report by Axios. Notably, US President Joe Biden was also invited to participate in a debate or town hall by the social media company but declined, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Details regarding the date, location, and moderators for the town halls are yet to be announced. It is expected that the moderators will include at least one NewsNation host, alongside other journalists, according to Axios.
Since acquiring the social media platform for $44 billion in late 2022 and lifting the ban on Donald Trump’s twitter account, Elon Musk has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden. X has made efforts to attract conservative politicians, including hosting a Q&A session when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination.
