If politics becomes issue-free, it will be highly detrimental to both the country’s development and its foundation. Today, fundamental issues like inflation, corruption, and unemployment seem to be fading away, giving way to a system of freebies. It is astonishing that in this modern world, decades or even centuries-old methods are still being adopted for votes. Election manifestos seem like a book of a free scheme, with each party presenting it to the public with great pride, filled with their impressive plans.
The surprising thing is that these manifesto documents do not even touch upon basic issues and concerns. Fundamental matters such as women’s safety, education, health, agriculture, irrigation, industry, transportation, basic amenities, infrastructure, forests, environment, wildlife, and mineral resources are conspicuously absent, replaced by promises of free, free, and free. But the big question is why, over the past few years, has the public gradually transformed into a mere crowd? It is a significant irony of Indian politics that even public education is considered the responsibility of the political class, a fact that no one is willing to acknowledge.”
