During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Varanasi, a heartbroken mother of a gang-rape survivor expressed her wish to meet him and narrate her daughter’s trauma, hoping for the harshest punishment against those accused. The case, involving the gang rape of a young girl by 23 individuals over multiple days, has shaken the local community and drawn the Prime Minister’s direct attention.

Mother Appeals for Strictest Punishment

The survivor’s mother, speaking to PTI, shared her desire to speak directly with PM Narendra Modi and recount the horror her daughter faced. “I want the people who committed such a heinous crime with my daughter to be given the harshest punishment so that in future, everyone thinks a thousand times before doing such barbaric acts,” she said. She also acknowledged PM Narendra Modi’s interest in the case, saying it showed his concern for the people.

The woman said the traumatic experience has severely impacted her daughter’s mental and physical health, and though the police have been supportive, the family remains devastated. “She is not keeping well. The trauma has cast a deep impact on her psyche,” she added.

Case Developments and Police Action

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was briefed on the details of the case upon his arrival in Varanasi, where he was scheduled to inaugurate developmental projects. He reportedly directed officials to ensure the strictest possible action against the accused.

According to Additional Commissioner of Police (Cantonment) Vidush Saxena, police arrested three more individuals on Friday, bringing the total number of arrests to 12. The FIR filed in the case names 23 accused, including 11 unidentified persons. Those arrested include Raj Vishwakarma, Sameer, Ayush, Sohail, Danish, Anmol, Sajid, Zahir, Imran, Jaib, Aman, and Raj Khan. Raids are ongoing to capture the remaining suspects.

The horrific incident reportedly took place between March 29 and April 4, during which the survivor was gang-raped in multiple locations. The complaint was filed by her family on April 6, and a case was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including gang rape, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation, and assault with intent to outrage modesty.
