Violence erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad following the alleged death of a 25-year-old Dalit man in police custody. The incident unfolded after Akash was arrested on June 19 on theft charges, following the recovery of a two-wheeler in his possession.
Akash reportedly fell ill while in police custody the next day and received initial medical treatment. His condition worsened, leading to his admission to a hospital on June 21, where he later succumbed to his illness.
Family members of the deceased accused the police of torturing Akash during his custody, triggering their outrage. Upon the arrival of Akash’s body at his home, they attacked the police team and set fire to several vehicles.
Police authorities have confirmed that Akash’s postmortem examination has been conducted, with further details and the autopsy report expected to be released soon.
In response to the unrest, police personnel deployed additional forces to maintain law and order in the area.
