US Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris praised her running mate, Tim Walz, during a rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday. Highlighting Tim Walz’s proven record as Minnesota Governor and his service in the Army National Guard, US Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized that Tim Walz would inspire Americans to dream big.
“He’s the kind of person who makes people feel like they belong and then inspires them to dream big. That’s the kind of vice president America deserves,” US Vice President Kamala Harris said with Tim Walz standing by her side. This event marked their first campaign together since US Vice President Kamala Harris named Tim Walz as her running mate. Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump labeled the pair “the most radical left.”
US Vice President Kamala Harris, the first Black woman and person of South Asian descent to lead a major party ticket, described Walz’s multifaceted background, including his roles as a husband, father, coach, veteran, congressman, and governor. She predicted that he would soon earn the title of Vice President of the United States after the November 5 election.
Tim Walz energized the crowd, calling for unity and action against their Republican rival, former President Donald Trump. “We’ve got 91 days. My God, that’s easy. We’ll sleep when we’re dead,” he said, recounting his upbringing in a small Nebraska town, his 24 years in the Army National Guard, and his careers as a high school teacher and football coach.
Tim Walz criticized former President Donald Trump for sowing chaos and division during his presidency and failing to handle the Covid-19 crisis effectively. He also targeted Republicans for their stance on women’s reproductive rights, referencing the 2022 Supreme Court ruling that ended the constitutional right to abortion. “Even if we wouldn’t make the same choice for ourselves, there’s a golden rule: mind your own damn business!” he said.
Since US Vice President Kamala Harris announced Tim Walz as her running mate, the campaign has raised over $20 million. The former President Donald Trump campaign, however, labeled Tim Walz a “far-left liberal.” former President Donald Trump himself described US Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz as “the most radical left duo in American history” on his Truth Social platform, accusing them of being extreme in their political views.
Former President Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, criticized Tim Walz for his handling of the 2020 protests following George Floyd’s death, claiming Tim Walz was not assertive enough with rioters. “The biggest problem with the Tim Walz pick – it’s not Tim Walz himself. It’s what it says about US Vice President Kamala Harris, that when given the opportunity she will bend the knee to the most radical elements of her party,” Vance told reporters.
Tim Walz secured the vice-presidential nomination over Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who faced criticism from progressive groups for his support of Israel and his handling of protests related to the Gaza conflict. Following their Philadelphia rally, US Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are scheduled to visit other crucial swing states, including Wisconsin, Arizona, and Nevada.
