“Given the immense scale of suffering in Gaza, there must be an immediate ceasefire,” Vice President Harris stated. “For at least the next six weeks, which is what is currently on the table. This will get the hostages out, and get a significant amount of aid in.”
“Hamas needs to accept it,” the Vice President added.
In her statement, Harris also highlighted the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza, where countless lives are at risk and essential services are severely disrupted. She underscored the urgency of reuniting hostages with their families and providing immediate relief to the people of Gaza.
“This would allow us to build something more enduring to ensure Israel is secure, and to respect the right of Palestinian people to dignity, freedom, and self-determination,” Harris emphasized.
The Vice President’s remarks come amidst intensifying Israeli offences in Gaza, leading to a tragic loss of life and widespread destruction. The situation has drawn international condemnation and calls for a ceasefire from leaders around the world.
“Hamas claims it wants a ceasefire. Well, there is a deal on the table. Let’s get a ceasefire. Let’s reunite the hostages with their families, and let’s provide immediate relief to the people of Gaza,” Harris urged, urging all parties to prioritize the well-being of civilians and work towards a sustainable resolution to the conflict.
