In a significant development in the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration, the United States military has deported a group of illegal Indian migrants, marking a decisive step in President Donald Trump’s administration’s efforts to address undocumented immigration. A C-17 aircraft, carrying 205 illegal Indian migrants, departed for Amritsar, Punjab, on Monday, sources confirmed. The flight took off from San Antonio, Texas, as part of a larger initiative to send undocumented individuals back to their home countries.

Each of the migrants was reportedly verified before being placed on the flight, ensuring that the deportation process adhered to legal procedures. The aircraft is expected to make a refueling stop at Ramstein, Germany, before continuing its journey to India. While the US Embassy has not officially confirmed the details of the flight, a spokesperson stated that the United States is vigorously enforcing its borders, tightening immigration laws, and expediting the removal of illegal migrants. “These actions send a clear message: illegal migration is not worth the risk,” the spokesperson said, reflecting the administration’s commitment to stricter immigration enforcement.

President Trump had previously pledged to carry out what would be the largest deportation in US history, and the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has compiled an initial list of nearly 18,000 undocumented Indian nationals among 1.5 million individuals marked for deportation. The deportation of this particular group of Indian migrants is part of this broader effort, though it remains unclear how many individuals from the deportation list were on the departing flight.

India, with an estimated 725,000 illegal immigrants residing in the United States, has the third-largest population of undocumented migrants in the country, following Mexico and El Salvador. According to data from the Pew Research Centre, these Indian migrants live in constant fear and uncertainty, as they face the threat of detention and deportation.

In response to questions about the deportation process, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had emphasized New Delhi’s willingness to accept the legitimate return of undocumented Indian nationals. Jaishankar clarified that the Indian government was actively verifying the individuals from the US who may be deported, although the exact number has yet to be determined. “With every country, and the US is no exception, we have always maintained that if any of our citizens are there illegally, and if we are sure that they are our citizens, we have always been open to their legitimate return to India,” Jaishankar said.

This move comes after President Trump’s January remarks, where he expressed confidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would “do what’s right” when it comes to taking back Indian immigrants who had entered the US illegally. These comments were made following a phone call between the two leaders, during which they discussed various matters of bilateral interest.

Additionally, the Pentagon has expanded its operations to deport more than 5,000 immigrants held by US authorities in El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California. Military aircraft have already flown migrants to Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras, with more flights expected to continue as the US government enforces its immigration policies more aggressively.

This development signals a new phase in the Trump administration’s immigration strategy, as it intensifies efforts to address illegal immigration while seeking to establish stricter immigration enforcement procedures. For many of the Indian migrants, the fear of deportation now looms large as the US government moves forward with its policies aimed at reducing illegal migration.
