Mumbai, 14 February : UP Warriors, a franchise owned by Capri Global Holdings Pvt Ltd, has fielded a strong squad to delight the cricket fans of Uttar Pradesh at the first ever Women’s Premier League 2023 (WPL) player auction held in Mumbai.
In the first-ever players’ auction ahead of the 2023 Women’s Premier League held in Mumbai, UP Warriors made a record bid of Rs 2.6 crore for all-rounder Deepti Sharma, the third highest bid at the auction.
The 24-year-old Deepti, who hails from the city of Agra, was UP Warriors’ first Indian pick in the auction. Deepti made her debut on 28 November 2014 in the series decider against South Africa at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Deepti said, It is a good opportunity and since I belong to UP, I am feeling very good about it. I want to give my best for UP Warriors in WPL. It is also good for us. It’s a fresh start and we’ve been waiting for an opportunity like this for a while, and my role will just be to do my best to contribute to the team.
Deepti has taken 97 wickets in 88 matches and is currently ranked third in the ICC T20 bowling rankings. Deepti has scored 914 runs in T20Is at an average of 26 with a useful strike-rate of 106.53.
During her career, Deepti has featured in franchise cricket outside India for Western Storm (Kia Super League), Sydney Thunder (WBBL), Birmingham Phoenix and London Spirit (both in The Hundred).
